On April 30th 2015, Facebook closed down their version 1 API that allows applications, such as Social Search Cloud to get data about friends and groups. We use that data, along with other data to generate statistics and profiles for Social Search Cloud.
When Version 2 API was announced we were hopeful that we would be able to work around some of the changes. As time has gone on, it's become painfully clear that Facebook only wish to supply this kind of data through first party tools.
Due to the fact that the API will be turned off, it will prove impossible to get any more data for the app to work.
Furthermore - the login authentication process is also changing for API version 2 - preventing our users from logging into the app via our Facebook connector as of the 30th.
This new login process is designed to allow both users and Facebook to observe and prevent any attempt to gain demographic or personal data.
Whilst we have never downloaded or stored personal data - the changes to the login process mean that any new version of the app will have to be re approved.
There is, as you can imagine, no chance of getting approval for a new app like Social Search Cloud - as Facebook's business model and API are no longer offering us the opportunity to get the required data.
So, with a heavy heart, we have no choice but to close Social Search Cloud as it has been rendered non-functional by these changes.
We are working on a replacement version - but it would be unfair to suggest to you that it will ever be able to deliver the level of demographic data that the original did.
As such - for those of you who wish to continue with Social Search Cloud - we will be mailing out about the progress and possibilities of an updated version in the near future.
If you do not wish to stay with Social Search Cloud - we can offer a good will credit towards other products that is proportional to the remaining months left in your 1 year maintenance license. This can be calculated by taking the date of of your initial purchase - adding twelve months and calculating the difference between that date and the date of shutdown - April 30th 2015.
Important: Social Search Cloud licensing will turn off on August 30th 2015 - please use that time to copy and paste any data out of the app.
